It is important that you set clear standards in your business and communicate them to everyone involved.
As a business owner, you would already have some expectations in your head of how you want things to be.
But the question is – have you ever taken the time to write them down and share them with your team? It is one thing to have that expectation, it is another thing for people to know the expectation.
Whether you have a team of two, 10 or 50, having some standards for your team to play by is critical. When you get frustrated because someone does not meet your expectation, that is usually because they have breached a standard that you have in your head.
When you have set a clear standard for them to follow, it is likely you will get more out of them because it takes away any confusion or uncertainty. This will ensure they understand and know how to serve your customers in the way you expect it to be.
Think of it this way. If business was a game, you would need to know the rules. Standards in your business are like rules. What are the rules for playing your game of business? What are those standards that you want people in your business to meet?
Here is a mini-challenge for you this week: Think about all the expectations you have, write them down, and then share them with the people who work for you, so that everyone is working to the same clear standards.
