People Tips

Managing your people can be a tricky business. The right people can take your business forward and the wrong people can take you backwards. The 4 key components you need to be aware of with your people are HIRING, PERFORMANCE, MANAGING and TRAINING. When you get these 4 things right, you will find your people are on the same page as you and business will get a little easier.

HIRING the right people for where your business is at now. The right people with the right skill and the right attitude to help you go up a few a levels.

PERFORMANCE of your people is critical whether they are full-time, part-time, casual or contractors. Your job is to be very clear on what you expect and then hold people accountable to that level of performance. You will get exactly what you tolerate.

MANAGING people and their expectations is critical. When everything is going well managing seems so easy, it’s when things are not going so well that true management is revealed. Having a good handle on this can make or break you.

TRAINING is very important if you want your people doing things the way you have in mind. There is an old saying “what if I train them and they leave … what if you don’t train them and they stay”. In this day and age, people do not stay with you forever, so it is best they are trained your way while they are with you.

To run a successful small business you’ll need to learn how to effectively manage your people and get the most out of them.  By doing this your people become more efficient, which will save you time and frustration and usually will increase your profitability as well.
