What To Do When You Feel Alone in Business

1. What To Do When You Feel Alone In Business

We speak to a lot of business owners and are often amazed at how often people in small business think they are all alone. And we understand that. Running your business can be a lonely place.

Quite often as a small business owner you think ‘hey, the problems I am going through or the challenges I am facing or the opportunities that are sitting before me, who can I talk to about it?

You don’t have to do it all yourself

You tell yourself ‘Surely my staff don’t understand’.  ‘My partner does not understand”. Or ‘my friends do not understand’. All these things go through your mind that no one gets what you are going through.

With that, the challenge is your thought process is “it is all up to me”. You have all these stories going on in your head about how you have got to do this all by yourself.  It then becomes self fulfilling.  When you tell yourself:

  • No one understands what you are going through.
  • Nobody will comprehend it.
  • No one can support me.
  • No one can help me.
  • Or even just the feeling that no one will ‘get it’.

Then you’ll just remain stuck where you are.

You are not alone

But there are so many small businesses. So many real, Mum and Dad type small businesses. In fact, in Australia, out of the 2 million odd businesses, you make up 40 percent of the landscape.  Two out of every five businesses are exactly like you.  They are going through exactly what you are going through.

Join a community

One of the things that we wanted to do in Biznostics is create a community of small businesses.  We figured if you can at least talk to other people who are on the same journey as you, you will get the encouragement you will need.

What you are going through this week, someone has been through it last week. What you are going to go through next week, someone is going through this week. There is so much to be learnt from other people on the same journey. When you are on that journey with someone else, learning things correctly and properly you don’t have to be alone.

So here is just a thought for you. Join a business group of like-minded people.  Find people on the same journey as you so you learn things properly and get the right encouragement to do the right things at the right time.

Good luck with your business.
